Just a quick session of talking to myself about a potential future video on an idea I've had for a while - unwinding my tendency to strip video games (and other things) down to their core elements in order to achieve my goals, thereby limiting the amount of enjoyment i can have with them by "living in them".

@basil_disco@dalek.zone I have! I think this conversation is good evidence that I really need to work through exactly what's going on in my head so i can best convey that in a video and how I can make deliberate choices to be more intentional about it in the future!

@wavebeam@spectra.video That's interesting because those kinds of games don't really have a 'checklist' of things to do. Did you try any walking sims like Firewatch? I'm pretty sure they're made for 'taking the scenery in' kind of meditative mindset

@basil_disco@dalek.zone This is an interesting thought! I do like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft! But those are definitely games I've turned on "Checklist mode" for!

I think you'd like more open-ended games like lifesims (Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, etc) or sandboxes like Minecraft because they're the antithesis to a 'Checklist mode' game. They also have a lot of downtime or quiet moments for you to go around and notice things or just reflect on your own life.
